Major road work disruption-Armadale-Ardvasar w-c 12th May
Added at 13:09 on 08 May 2025
Notification of Road Works in Ardvasar Sleat.
URGENT PRE-ADVICE
Following discussions with The Highland Council Skye roads team an opportunity has arisen to undertake the urgent work to repair the single track carriageway from the Armadale junction to the end of the speed limit west of Ardvasar Village. This was deemed a priority in the Roads Capital Plan approved in February and annotated on the map below.
Highland Council works with other contractors in addition to using their in house team. Talks are underway for this work to commence early next week 12th May as an external contractor has a slot to support the council.
Such works, long overdue, will result in major disruption to road users and pedestrians as it will require road closures on a timed basis for 3 or possibly 4 days. The start day will be advised to SCC later.
Work is undertaken between 0800 and 1700 with access for blue light vehicles, school transport and emergencies. However, this could result in delays of up to 2 hours at a time, simply because of the width of the carriageway as there is no option to keep the road open. Timed amnesties will be published once the works are scheduled and we are advised that if this opportunity with contractors is lost it could be months or next year for another chance. Works such as this cannot be undertaken in the winter.
These roadworks will cause significant disruption and complicated by iron structures in parts of the road but will result in an entirely new road surface long asked for by residents, businesses, organisations and visitors.
We are hoping to meet online later with HC officials and the contractor to firm up arrangements and so will update as soon as possible. Arrangements are being made to temporarily store tar shavings which may cause some further disruption locally.
Normally HC would erected signs at least a month in advance of roadworks but because of the availability of resources at short notice this was not possible.
