Good news for Scotland's West Coast shipping
Added on 17 June 2012
Following a massive campaign of lobbying, petitions and press coverage the British Government announced in a written statement on the 12th of June that the provision of a government funded Emergency Towing Vessel for the Highlands and Islands will continue for an indefinite period and not less than three years. The Secretary of State for Scotland, Michael Moore, was delighted to confirm that the service will be re-instated with immediate effect. The loss of the coverage caused outrage across the region and so the news was greeted with joy by the many groups, who lobbied the British Government. For the official statement click here and the link below shows one of the press reactions to the announcement which will be welcomed throughout the region. The Community Council was pleased to have supported the lobbying process.
