Dear Colleagues

The consultation on ideas for the Scottish Government's proposed Community Empowerment and Renewal Bill, was launched by the Minister for Local Government and Planning in the community run Community Central Hall, Maryhill, Glasgow on 6 June 2012.

Thank-you to all who were able to attend on the day for what was a very interesting and inspiring event. For those who were unable to attend, we look forward to having the opportunity to engage with you during the consultation period, which runs until 29 August 2012.

The Bill is a manifesto commitment and forms part of our plans for public service reform. This exploratory consultation looks at ideas designed to strengthen community participation, unlock enterprising community development and renew communities. The consultation document is now available on the Scottish Government consultation page at  http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Consultations.

Updates and news on events relating to the development of the Bill will be shared via the Scottish Government website - dedicated community empowerment pages are being developed and we will be encouraging you to share your stories and experiences.

Please forward this email to colleagues and members who may be interested in contributing to discussions on the Bill. For those who like engaging through twitter please help us spread the word by following us at https://twitter.com/CommEmpower and help us keep track of discussions on the Bill by using #scotCERB.

If anyone would like to contact the Community Empowerment Unit - please email us at community.empowerment@scotland.gsi.gov.uk.

We look forward to your contribution.
Kind Regards,
