Update from Sleat Medical Centre
Added on 31 December 2016
New Year’s Update from the Sleat Surgery.
At the December meeting of the Community Council it was agreed that we would approach Liz Dobson, the Practice Manager responsible for Sleat for an update. Shown below are some of the key points that Mrs Dobson advised.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~***
The new Advanced Practitioner, Michelle Hutton, joins the South Skye Practices on 5th January and for the first month Michelle will be undertaking inductions across both Broadford and Sleat surgeries. As patients may not be familiar with the role and skills of Advanced Practitioner there will be a communications process to inform patients of their role and that of Health Care Assistants, Community Nurses. Practice Nurses and GPs so that patients can be seen by and make appointments with the most appropriate clinician.
Dr Gasson takes early retirement at the end of January and her post of 30 hours is currently being re-advertised, the recruitment and appointment of a new GP may take 3-4 months. (As she has holiday to take she will actually finish working at the practice on the 11 January).
There is an interim GP, Dr Andrew Inglis who is already in post and will be here in south Skye until the end of April. Andrew joins the existing team of Clare Witney, Angus Venters, Geoff Boyes and Kate Gearing.
The surgery will continue to close on Wednesday afternoons at 1300.
In December, a new electronic ‘dispensIT’ system was introduced to enhance reliability and efficiency in the dispensary whilst the process to recruit two Receptionist/Dispenser vacancies continues.***The Practice would ask for continued help from patients to request their medication in a timely fashion allowing at least 3 full working days, particularly from those patients who know their medicines are not kept as regular stock but require to be ordered in from the wholesalers.*** The admin team (Pam, Lynsey, Chris, Julie) continue to cover for these vacancies and so patients may be seeing and talking to any of the four staff members working in reception across the sites.
If you have any queries or require further information, please call 01471 844283 (Sleat Surgery) or email Liz Dobson directly on lizdobson@nhs.net
Please share across Sleat so that as many people as possible are aware of this update.
