URGENT MESSAGE FROM POLICE SCOTLAND

Added on 28 July 2013

Police Scotland have issued a warning to businesses and residents of an alarming increase in theft across south Skye and Lochalsh over the past week. It is believed that a gang of thieves is targeting  garages, sheds, building sites and out-houses, generally between 1800 and 0800 and stealing items such as power-tools, bikes, and high value equipment. Residents and businesses are strongly advised to lock all sheds and out-houses, and secure equipment if it is to be left unattended at night at building developments and other sites. Should anyone see a vehicle acting suspiciously they should in the first instance call Police Scotland on 101 or if it is believed that a crime is taking place then call 999 immediately. Police Scotland currently believe that the type of vehicle being used may be a Transit van or similar, capable of removing large items of equipment such as power tools. Furthermore if a vehicle is believed to be suspicious then the Police have asked residents and businesses to note the number plate, make, model and colour of vehicle, a description of any persons, and if possible the direction that the vehicle might be going.

All residents and businesses are asked to be especially vigilant in the coming days and weeks, and to keep a watch on neighbouring properties, if applicable, and report anything that may be of interest to the Police.
