Improving Service Provision for the Over 65s in Skye and Lochalsh

Added on 19 May 2013

'As part of the Health and Social Care Forum,Skye and Lochalsh CVO are currently seeking community views on service provision for older people in the Skye and Lochalsh area and would like to ask you - as the community council representative - to pass on a general invitation to people in your community to complete a short survey. If you have a community council newsletter or website please include this invitation.

The survey can either by completed online by going to  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RCOPSLSurvey  or Skye and Lochalsh CVO can also distribute paper copies for completion by hand. Contact michelle@slcvo.org.uk  Deadline for response is 24 May 2013.

The survey is open to all including  people over 65 themselves, carers, those approaching 65 and anyone with concerns about getting older and the challenges they might face. Meeting people's changing needs as they get older, and helping to ensure that we can all continue to live independently in our own home as long as possible, is made even more of a challenge in rural areas.

Alongside the statutory provision offered by NHS Highland, there are many Third Sector organisations in the Skye and Lochalsh area offering a variety of practical services, support, advice and information, including Crossroads Care; Carrgomm; Alzheimers Scotland;  the Handy person service; Chest Heart and Stroke  Community Stroke Service; Skye Old Peoples Welfare minibus and Lunch Clubs.

Making sure that these services are available and campaigning for future improvements to services is something everyone can have a say in. All comments will be kept anonymous but are extremely important and will go towards collating a development report focusing on service provision for older people in the Skye and Lochalsh area. The report will be used by service providers to seek funding for future service provision.

Thank you for your time and assistance with this.'
